Clinton Correctional Facility, also known as Clinton Prison, is a maximum-security prison located in he Village Dannemora. The prison was established in 1845 and has a long and complex history.
Initially, the prison was established as Dannemora State Prison, named after the town in which it was located. It was built on the site of an old iron mine, and prisoners were put to work in the mines as a form of hard labor. In the early years of the prison's existence, conditions were notoriously harsh. This reputation earned the prison the nickname "Siberia" among some inmates.
The prison underwent significant changes in the early 20th century, with new facilities and buildings added to improve conditions for the prisoners. Vocational training programs were also introduced, which taught prisoners valuable skills such as carpentry, printing, plumbing, and even farming.

One of the most significant events in the prison's history occurred in 2015 when two inmates, Richard Matt and David Sweat, escaped from the facility. Their escape led to a massive manhunt that lasted for several weeks and involved hundreds of law enforcement officers. Matt was killed in a confrontation with police, while Sweat was captured and returned to custody.
Today, Clinton Correctional Facility remains one of the most well-known prisons in the state of New York, and is known for its high level of security and supervision. It houses some of the most dangerous and violent criminals in the state.

Visiting Hours at Clinton Correctional Facility: Visiting occurs everyday from 8:30am-3pm. Three (3) visitors and one (1) child under the age of five (5) will be allowed to visit. The child must sit on an adult’s lap.
